» John N Zell - Head Coach & Teams Coordinator  email

I have been teaching/coaching swimming since around 1970. Over the years I have been blessed to have been able to work with many talented athletes ages from 4 - 88yrs of age. All in their own respect a true competitor in the pool and in life. Many of these athletes have gone off to college and started their own lives while relating to the things they learned from being a swim team member that has helped them along tremendously in life day to day.

What we try to do is instill in them what it takes to be a competitve swimmer is also what it takes to become successful in LIFE!

I have returned to the Head Coaching Position and still am the Team Coordinator for the 3 pool sites.

We work on the IM training concept of teaching all the swimmers all 4 strokes and making the IM a daily practice set.

Hope to see you pool side soon :)

» Michael Kahrmann - Coach Michael, Woodburn   email

My name is Michael Kahrmann and I am 22 years old. I coach the silver and gold swim groups and help out where ever I'm needed.

I learned to swim when I joined North Marion High School swim team. I swam four years on that team. I had a lot of fun and that’s where I met some of my best friends. I feel that being on the swim team challenged me to become a better person both mentally and physically. My body got into shape and I learned how to push myself to work harder. Being part of the swim team was a great experience. I’m coaching because I want to give others to the opportunity that I had when I was on the swim team.

I work at Rural Metro Ambulance as an EMT. My shift is 24 hours on and 48 hours off, so I'm not able to coach five days a week. However I'm at the pool coaching three or four days a week.

Besides working at Rural Metro, I’m a volunteer firefighter in Hubbard where I live. I have been a life guard for five years and have taught swimming lesson for three years.

My goals for the swim team are to help each swimmer to progressively become faster through learning proper technique, power and endurance. To achieve results we work on stroke drills, sprints, kicking and pulling sets in the pool. I work with swimmers on an individual basis as well as a group setting. I encourage the swimmers to eat healthy, drink plenty of water, and get enough sleep. I expect the swimmers to put a 100% effort into each practice, this way they can get as much personal growth as possible.

Be sure to check the Swimmers Corner often, I often will write more than one update a month.

» David K Morelli - Coach David, Woodburn Silver   email

Coach David Morelli has coached in the past at Dallas Blue Dolphins and is now the pastor of one of the local churchs. He is coaching the Silver group now on Tuesday and Thursday and will be attending meets for Barracuda Swimming in the future.  Coach David actually coached in Alaska while I was up there coaching also.

I love swimming and it has been a part of my life in one way or another for 40 years. I believe it is the best sport for young children. It teaches them that the performance at a meet is a direct result of the work that one is willing to put into it. I enjoy my time with the team at Woodburn because we have a great group of swimmers. The next few months we will increase the yards and speed of our sets and strive towards the goal of increasing their speed through endurance and technique. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to coach your children.
